The Pittsburgh Steelers- Pre-Season

24 08 2010

The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a great start after Post Season wins against the Detroit Lions and the recent Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.

The home win against the Lions came with the defense not seeing much action. A 23-7 win was enough to showcase all our offensive talent, save for the mishap fumble by Mendenhall and Moore, both recovered by the Steelers. The Steelers defense would have a good game, with the Lions tallying only one touchdown in the game. Ryan Clark stood out among the defensive starters with an interception in the first two series of play of the season. In this game we still saw some offensive line struggles as Flozell Adams had trouble with a smaller defensive end who tallied a sack on Leftwich and Kemoeatu allowed Kyle VandenBosch to wind up in about the same position…the QB’s mouth. Leftwich had a good start despite getting roughed up in the pocket. He went 6-10 for 43 yards. Dixion’s legs showed themselves to be superior to the Lions backup defense carrying the ball for 31 yards on 6 carries and had a touchdown that was called back.

Away from home in the Meadow Lands the Steelers come up with a big win. The greatest offensive quarter for the black and gold in the game came in the 3rd. Ben finally made his debut. It wasn’t the prettiest start ever with one interception on an under thrown ball to the speedster Wallace but he did go 6 for 8 besides that. Penalties were a problem during this game. A key penalty going to none other than the newly acquired lineman Flozell Adams, whom last year was the most penalized lineman in the game. Leftwich was a bright spot in the game. Showing his arm strength on a 68 yard bomb to Mike Wallace. One touchdown on that pass and almost a rushing touchdown when time expired in the second. Dixon had an equally good game and may have earned the right for a controversy. Again he had good rushing yards with 5 carries for 27 yards. 24-17 was a great game for the Steelers to come up with. Last year both teams under achieved to mediocre records but still both are remnant super bowl champions.

Big Ben punishment aside, The Pittsburgh Steelers have put together a great team for the upcoming season. Lets pray the team stays healthy and the addition of Flozell Adams and Pouncey bolster our offensive line. All of that could equal a really great season.

Our Pittsburgh Penguins Advance!

26 04 2010

Its a Hockey Night In Pittsburgh!

A little off topic here people but the excitement is in the air in all of Pennsylvaina as the Flyers and Penguins advance to the second round of the playoffs. Their rivalry aside, this years Stanley Cup Eastern Playoffs are shaping up to be a great one! The Flyers have advanced giving way to thoughts of a possible rematch of the Pens, Flyers series last year that was heart stopping and breath-taking.

Pens Vs. Sens

The Pittsburgh series took place in a definite playoff fashion. It was amazingly physical and not without casualties as newly acquired Penguins player Jordan Leopold went down hard on a hit by Sens’ Sutton in what announcer Bob Errey thought and this writer thinks was a questionable hit due to the Area of the hit (high) and Sutton leaving his feet before the hit. Sydney Crosby showed himself to be one of the brightest stars in the league again with 13 points which through the first 5 games was tops in the NHL in the playoffs. The pens support team also came alive with neither Crosby or Malking scoring a point in the final game which ended 4-3 Pens in overtime with two goals by Matt Cooke. Some new faces took the ice as well as we saw Chris Connor in this series!  In any case the Penguins came out on top after 2 over time games and some bad bounces. The series ended 4-2 with the pens coming out on top in an overtime win in Ottawa.

Looking Ahead

Looking at the brackets they may get another home series or be at home throughout! This gets a little confusing but here is the premace, the top seed plays the lowest seed and so on. So if Washington wins they will play Philadelphia. If Montreal wins they will play Pittsburgh or Buffalo if Buffalo can beat Boston. If Buffalo wins over Boston they will play either Montreal (if they beat Washington) or Philadelphia. If Boston beats Buffalo they will play Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh unless Montreal also wins then Buffalo will play Montreal!

Phew! So we play either Montreal Or Boston either or is at home! The most likely scenario see that it is 3-2 Boston and 3-2 Washington will be Washington at home in a series against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh at home in a series against the Boston Bruins.

Lets Go Pens!
