The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a great start after Post Season wins against the Detroit Lions and the recent Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.
The home win against the Lions came with the defense not seeing much action. A 23-7 win was enough to showcase all our offensive talent, save for the mishap fumble by Mendenhall and Moore, both recovered by the Steelers. The Steelers defense would have a good game, with the Lions tallying only one touchdown in the game. Ryan Clark stood out among the defensive starters with an interception in the first two series of play of the season. In this game we still saw some offensive line struggles as Flozell Adams had trouble with a smaller defensive end who tallied a sack on Leftwich and Kemoeatu allowed Kyle VandenBosch to wind up in about the same position…the QB’s mouth. Leftwich had a good start despite getting roughed up in the pocket. He went 6-10 for 43 yards. Dixion’s legs showed themselves to be superior to the Lions backup defense carrying the ball for 31 yards on 6 carries and had a touchdown that was called back.
Away from home in the Meadow Lands the Steelers come up with a big win. The greatest offensive quarter for the black and gold in the game came in the 3rd. Ben finally made his debut. It wasn’t the prettiest start ever with one interception on an under thrown ball to the speedster Wallace but he did go 6 for 8 besides that. Penalties were a problem during this game. A key penalty going to none other than the newly acquired lineman Flozell Adams, whom last year was the most penalized lineman in the game. Leftwich was a bright spot in the game. Showing his arm strength on a 68 yard bomb to Mike Wallace. One touchdown on that pass and almost a rushing touchdown when time expired in the second. Dixon had an equally good game and may have earned the right for a controversy. Again he had good rushing yards with 5 carries for 27 yards. 24-17 was a great game for the Steelers to come up with. Last year both teams under achieved to mediocre records but still both are remnant super bowl champions.
Big Ben punishment aside, The Pittsburgh Steelers have put together a great team for the upcoming season. Lets pray the team stays healthy and the addition of Flozell Adams and Pouncey bolster our offensive line. All of that could equal a really great season.
